The Used Bmw 1 Series

The BMW 1-series includes the company’s smallest and least expensive car models while retaining all of the superior attributes BMW vehicles are known for.  Sporty yet sophisticated, this series offers a variety of trims in 3-door and 5-door models (on both coupes and hatches) as well as a 2-door convertible with a soft retractable top.

Models in the BMW 1-series operate on a 4- or 6-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission with the option of a 6-speed automatic.  All vehicles in this series are rear-wheel drive, a first for cars in this class.  BMW lists acceleration times as low as 5.3 seconds 0-62 in the turbocharged 135i Sport to an impressive 9.5 seconds 0-62 in the heavier convertible.  Even the tiny 116i with its 122 hp engine races 0-62 in under 10 seconds.

Fuel economy and environmental impact remain top-notch for this class.  All vehicles are constructed with lightweight materials and employ stop-start technology and brake energy regeneration, all of which improve fuel economy.  Fuel mileage across the series averages approximately 48 mpg with CO2 emissions around 140g/km.  Offering either petrol or diesel will undoubtedly appeal to buyers as well.

If the 1-series has a downside, it’s interior space.  The driver and front-seat passenger are provided with sufficient seating space while rear-seat passengers will likely find meager accommodations at best.  This, combined with limited interior storage space, may make the 1-series an unsuitable choice for buyers intending on driving with more than two people at a time.  Vehicles in this class are ideal for work and university commutes or a day trip with your best chum.

In spite of the fluid steering BMW vehicles are known for, road tests from different sources all seem to come to the same conclusion:  the 1-series vehicles provide a “stiff” ride, especially amongst the sport suspensions.  The vehicles in this series provide a crisp ride but tend to react sharply to bumps or bad pavement.

Standard safety features for the BMW 1-series cars include front seat-integrated airbags, traction control, ABS, and crash-sensor activations, to name a few.  A first-aid kit and warning triangle are staples of BMW safety and are included in all new vehicles.  Receiving a 5-star rating for adult passengers in crash tests by the Euro NCAP should give buyers peace of mind when zipping around in their choice of the 1-series.
